What is Baby Bottle Syndrome?

Baby Bottle syndrome occurs when a baby is allowed to sleep with a bottle of juice or milk. In both situations, the teeth are constantly bathed with sugar resulting in rampant decay.

This can be a problem even in the daytime if the child is allowed to walk around with a bottle of juice or milk. Every time he (or she) takes a sip of that sugary drink he gets ten minutes of decay activity.

The answer is water, water, water! Give your child the recommended amount of juice or milk with a meal if possible and then if they are thirsty in between meals let them drink fluoridated water. You will save your child a huge amount of dental chair time.

Unless you are a patient of Dr. Landin's and have seen him very recently, this should not be construed as dental advice but only as information. Please consult your own dentist in regard to your personal situation or condition.
